Built at the Glenn L Martin factory at Baltimore, Maryland as a B-26B-50-MA. Accepted by the Army Air Force on 9/12/43. Next listed at Morris Field, Charlotte, North Carolina (ATC) from 13/12/43. Then flown to the 3rd AF staging area at Hunter Field, Savannah, Georgia (from 15/12/43). Assigned to the 8th AF at Hunter Field. Flown overseas to the UK via the Southern Ferry Route (Listed as Carribean Wing), departing the USA on 31/12/43. The aircraft record card then lists, SOXO A (Europe - 8th AF) on 31/12/43, and SOXO R (Europe - 8th AF) from 30/1/44. Entered service with the 391st BG / 572nd BS in February 1944. Hit in the nose section by an 88mm flak gun over Irlich, Germany on 24/2/45. The bombardier, 2nd Lt. Kenneth F Fagan, and co-pilot, 2nd Lt. Warren M Wright were killed instantly, and the pilot, 2nd Lt. Paul R Young knocked temporarily unconscious. The aircraft dropped out of formation and went into a spin. The three gunners bailed out over enemy territory. The pilot came round, put the aircraft into a dive to recover the spin, which also put the fires that had started. He nursed the crippled plane back to allied lines and crash landed in a farmers field at Mersch. This was it's 120th mission. This was his 2nd crash landing in two weeks, see 43-34156. The pilot dropped the aircraft in from about 10,000 feet for a dead stick crash landing. Although he was badly injured in the face and suffering spinal injuries, he crawled from the burning wreck, and survived to be awarded the Silver Star for his bravery. The three gunners made their way safely back to allied lines. According to Horst Weber, the aircraft crashed at Bruchlandung near Mersch, Luxembourg. The final entry on the aircraft record card lists, GLUE 9AF CON SAL NBD on 8/3/45.
