Delivered from the Martin Omaha plant. Then flown to the 3rd AF staging area at Hunter Field, Savannah, Georgia (from 22/1/44), and then to Homestead Army Air Field, Florida (from 13/2/44), from where the aircraft was flown overseas to the UK via the Southern Ferry Route, departing the USA on 15/2/44. The record card then lists, SOXO A (Europe) on 14/2/44, and SOXO R (Europe) on 7/3/44. Entered combat with the 391st BG / 575th BS on 19/4/44, and was on strength with the group till April 1945 when it was transferred on conversion to Douglas A-26's. Damaged in a ground accident at A-73 Roye-Amy, France on 21/3/45 during a major overhaul. The pilot is listed as Earl J Bass. The aircraft record card suggests the aircraft as landing on an Advanced Landing Strip around 2/8/44, and was repaired on 6/11/44, but this needs confirmation, listing the following: GLUE 9AF CON ON ALS on 2/8/44, and, GLUE 9AF REPAIRED on 6/11/44. We are not sure what happened to this aircraft after it was transferred out of the 391st BG, but it was not salvaged until 18/2/46. The final entry on the aircraft record card lists, GLUE CON SAL FEA on 18/2/46. |
