Target: RR Bridge at Euskirchen, Germany
The railroad bridge at Euskirchen, Germany, came under bomb attack by the 391st on the 11th November. Thirty of the Group's planes and two Pathfinder ships were dispatched and all attacked, dropping one hundred and twenty-four 1000-pounders on the primary, using PFF technique. Phot coverage was obtained, with the following results interpreted by photo intelligence.
With the flare up on the 3rd Army Front it was vital to deny the enemy the use of the rail roads in this area to shift reserves and supplies from one point to another to met the trust of our forces. Up to now by continuous reshuffling they had been able to place reserves where needed.
Box 1 - Bombs fell in a dispersed concentration approximately 1300 feet South of the desired main point of impact. Strikes plotted on three factory type buildings, a roadway and a road bridge 900 feet south of the desired point.
Two planes were flak damaged, but there were no casualties or losses.
Box 2 was led by Major Earll led with Lt. Netherton as bombardier and Lt. Mansfield as navigator. Flight 2 of box 2 was led by Lt. Chatellier with Lt. Bosse as bombardier and Lt. Art as navigator.
