Built at the Glenn L Martin factory at Baltimore, Maryland as a B-26B-50-MA. Accepted by the Army Air Force on 9/11/43. Next flown by New Castle (2nd Ferry Group), Wilmington, Deleware (from 6/12/43, to Roanoke Regional Airport, Virginia (ATC) from 7/12/43. Then went to Godman Field, Fort Knox, Kentucky (from 11/12/43), and assigned to the 391st BG. Flown overseas to the UK via the Southern Ferry Route (Listed as Carribean Wing), departing the USA on 6/1/44. The aircraft record card then lists, SOXO A (Europe - 8th AF) on 6/1/44, and SOXO R (Europe - 8th AF) from 30/1/44. Original group aircraft. The aircraft had flown 67 missions by 20/6/44. Hit by flak shortly after reaching the French coast during the 8/8/44 mission to Anizy Le Chateau, France. The right prop, main fuel tank, aileron controls and hydraulic system were damaged, but the pilot managed to fly to the target, release bombs, then flew home on one engine to make a crash landing at an emergency landing field. S/Sgt. Harold Kauffman was killed by flak. The pilot 1st Lt. Woodrow W Fry was awarded the DFC for his bravery & determination to duty. The final entry on the aircraft record card lists, GLUE CON SAL FEA on 27/12/45. Have also seen this aircraft listed as "The High Sign", needs confirmation.
