Aircraft history for serial number: 42-107634 (kindly provided by Paul Clouting).
Delivered from the Martin Omaha plant. Next listed at Atlanta, Georgia (ATC) from 1/2/44. Then went to the 3rd AF staging area at Hunter Field, Savannah, Georgia (from 2/2/44), and then to Homestead Army Air Field, Florida (from 24/2/44), from where the aircraft was flown overseas to the UK via the Southern Ferry Route (Listed as Caribbean Wing), departing the USA on 25/2/44. The record card then lists, SOXO A (Europe) on 25/2/44, and SOXO R (Europe) on 9/3/44. Entered combat with the 391st BG / 573rd BS on 8/5/44. Badly damaged by flak on the 8/6/44 mission to bomb a RR junction at Valognes, France. The pilot, 2nd Lt. Richard E. Baehr, was forced to make an emergency landing back at Matching Green. The aircraft was repaired and went on to fly 110 missions with the group until 30/3/45 when it was withdrawn from service when the group converted to the Douglas A-26. We are not sure what happened to this aircraft once it left service with the 391st BG, but it was not salvaged until January 1946. The final entry on the aircraft record card lists, GLUE CON SAL FEA (9th AF) on 4/1/46.
