Delivered from the Martin Omaha plant. Next listed at Omaha, Nebraska (ATC) on 1/4/44, and Kansas City (ATC) on 1/4/44. Then flown to the 3rd AF staging area at Hunter Field, Savannah, Georgia (from 2/4/44), and on to Homestead Army Air Field, Florida (from 15/4/44), from where the aircraft was flown overseas to the UK via the Southern Ferry Route, as a 9th AF replacement aircraft, departing the USA on 17/4/44. The record card then lists, SOXO 9AF A (Europe) on 16/4/44, and GLUE 9AF R (Europe) on 29/4/44. Entered combat with the 391st BG / 575th BS on 27/5/44. Shot down by flak over the Foret de Dreux, France on the 5/7/44 mission to bomb Senonches fuel dump. The aircraft flown by 1st Lt. Michael Robert Petrich took a direct hit below the mid upper turret which broke the aircraft in two pieces, probably killing two of the crew. Only the pilot and tail gunner survived the bail out and were captured. Two other crew members who managed to bail out were killed. It is believed that they may have been shot as came down in their parachutes. The aircraft crashed 2 km NE of St. George, Montreuil, France. Engines, P&W, R-2800-43, serials: FP-061460 (left), and, FP-062024 (right). The final entry on the aircraft record card lists, GLUE 9AF CON MIA on 5/7/44.
