Delivered from the Martin Omaha plant. Next listed at Omaha, Nebraska (ATC) from 6/2/44, and Atlanta AP, Georgia (ATC) on 7/2/44. Then went to the 3rd AF staging area at Hunter Field, Savannah, Georgia (from 12/2/44), and then to Homestead Army Air Field, Florida (from 20/2/44), from where the aircraft was flown overseas to the UK via the Southern Ferry Route (Listed as Caribbean Wing), departing the USA on 21/2/44. The record card then lists, SOXO A (Europe) on 21/2/44, and, SOXO R (Europe) on 7/3/44. Entered combat with the 391st BG / 572nd BS on 8/5/44. Shot down by flak on the 8/8/44 mission to the Anizy Le Chateau RR bridge, France. The aircraft flown by Capt. William G Erickson, Jnr was hit in the right wing between the engine nacelle and the fuselage. The engine started to smoke heavily, but the aircraft continued on course losing speed and altitude. Four chutes were spotted leaving the aircraft in quick succession, then two more before the aircraft went into a right hand bank and dive, exploding on impact with the ground in the woods at Gamaches, France. The crew survived the bail out, although two were captured as POW's. Engines, P&W, R-2800-43, serials: FP-060401 (left), and, FP-060857 (right). The final entry on the aircraft record card lists, GLUE 9AF CON MIA on 8/8/44.
