Aircraft history for serial number: 43-34337 (kindly provided by Paul Clouting).
Built at the Glenn L Martin factory at Baltimore, Maryland as a B-26G-5-MA. Accepted by the Army Air Force on 30/6/44. Then flown by New Castle (2nd Ferry Group), Wilmington, Deleware (from 7/7/44), to the 3rd AF staging area at Hunter Field, Savannah, Georgia (from 9/7/44). Next went to Dow Field, Bangor, Maine (from 24/7/44), from where the aircraft was flown overseas to the UK via the Northern Ferry Route, departing the USA on 1/8/44. The aircraft record card then lists, GLUE 9AF A (Europe - 9th AF) from 1/8/44, and GLUE 9AF G (Europe - 9th AF) from 13/8/44. Entered combat with the 391st BG / 572nd BS on 6/9/44. Hit by flak over the target at Irlich, Germany on 24/2/45. The aircraft was part of a flight of aircraft which were to bomb flak positions near the main target and drop chaff. The aircraft flown by Capt. Gwen T McPherson took a direct hit which took off most of the left wing, sending it spinning down out of control. No chutes were spotted and all the crew were killed. Engines, P&W, R-2800-43, serials: FP-063646 (left), and, FP-063601 (right). The final entry on the aircraft record card lists, GLUE CON MIA on 25/2/45. Nose name confirmed in the MACR. According to Horst Weber, the aircraft crashed at Kirspenich, Germany.
