Built at the Glenn L Martin factory at Baltimore, Maryland as a B-26G-15-MA. Accepted by the Army Air Force on 9/10/44. Then flown by Baltimore, Maryland (ATC) from 16/10/44, to the 3rd AF staging area at Hunter Field, Savannah, Georgia (from 16/10/44). Next went to Morrison Field, West Palm Beach, Florida (1103 BAS) from 24/10/44, from where the aircraft was flown overseas via the Southern Ferry Route, departing the USA on 26/10/44. The aircraft record card then lists, GLUE 9AF A (Europe - 9th AF) on 26/10/44, and GLUE 9AF R (Europe - 9th AF) on 13/11/44. Entered combat with the 391st BG / 573rd BS on 26/12/44. Crashed on take off from Roye/Amy airfield on 16/1/45 for the mission to Neuwied, Germany. The aircraft flown by 1st Lt. George A. Edwards Jnr, lost an engine on take off and crashed just beyond the end of the runway and caught fire. The pilot and one other crew member, T/Sgt. William J Coe were pinned in the wreckage and died. The rest of the crew managed to get out. After 10 minutes, one of the 2,000 lb bombs on board exploded, the concussion killing the gunner, S/Sgt. John J Velthouse, and injuring one of the medics, Pfc. George P Thomas who was on the scene. Other crew on board were: 2nd Lt. Morton J Rhoda (injured), 2nd Lt. Charles W Butler (injured), S/Sgt. Lester E Franques (injured). The final entry on the aircraft record card lists, GLUE 9AF CON SAL on 16/1/45.
