Built at the Glenn L Martin factory at Baltimore, Maryland as a B-26B-55-MA. Accepted by the Army Air Force on 16/2/44. Next listed as flown by New Castle (2nd Ferry Group), Wilmington, Deleware (from 21/2/44), to WRAD (Warner-Robbins Air Depot, Georgia (from 23/2/44), for the installation of N-6A gun sights. Next flown to the 3rd AF staging area at Hunter Field, Savannah, Georgia (from 24/2/44). Then went to Morrison Field, West Palm Beach, Florida (from 5/3/44), and on to Homestead Army Air Field, Florida (from 7/3/44), from where the aircraft was flown overseas to the UK via the Southern Ferry Route (Listed as Caribbean Wing), departing the USA on 6/3/44. The aircraft record card then lists, SOXO A (Europe - 8th AF) from 6/3/44, and SOXO R (Europe - 8th AF) from 18/3/44. Entered combat with the 1st Pathfinder SQN on 21/6/44. The aircraft was painted all over black. Shot down by German fighters on 23/12/44 whilst leading the 386th & 391st BG's to the Ahrweiler RR bridge, Germany. The aircraft flown by Capt. Enoch G Longsworth was shot down NE of Euskirchen, Germany. The front section was badly damaged, and went down out of control. Only the engineer, T/Sgt. George R Winston who was injured managed to bail out and was captured, the rest of the crew were killed. This crew had not been with the Pathfinder SQN very long, and this was only their fifth mission with the unit. This crew had flown four missions with the 397th BG / 596th BS prior to joining the pathfinder squadron. Engines, P&W R-2800-43, serials: FP-061630 (left), and, FP-061206 (right). The final entry on the aircraft record card lists, SOXO CON MIA on 24/12/44.
