Mission No. 35
25 Apr 1944
Station: 166
Target: "Noball" (V-1 Launch Site) at Zudausques, France
Time Of Take-Off: 08:52 / Time Over Target: 10:00 / Time Landed: 10:40
38 B-26 were dispatched to attack an enemy "Noball" (V-1 Launch Site) at Zudausques, France. Each aircraft in the 1st box was loaded with 8x500LB General Purpose bombs, with the 2nd box carrying 14x250 General Purpose bombs. RAF Spitfires provided fighter umbrella over the target area.
Weather conditions were good enroute and over the target. Heavy, Moderate, Accurate FLAK was experienced over the target area and also near a Forest northwest of St. Omer. 21 aircraft sustained damage.
The 1st box dropped 145 bombs on the "Noball" site at Zudausques. The records are unclear with regard to the 2nd box. Either they dropped 258 bombs on Zudausques or another "Noball" site at Cormette. Considering the proximity of these two places, perhaps they refer to the same target. Results were rated as poor.
